Early Childhood Programs & Learning

Our early childhood programs foster a love of reading and learning in a positive, supportive environment. We partner with parents, caregivers, educators, and children at the library and in the community to encourage early literacy: playing, learning, reading, listening, and developing.

Afterschool Programs

Our school-age children’s programs focus on holistic development through academic support, enrichment activities like arts and sports, social-emotional learning, life skills development, opportunities for mentorship, and flexibility to cater to diverse student needs, all provided in a safe and welcoming environment.

Tweens

Our popular programs for kids ages 8-12 include engaging activities that incorporate comics, video games, movies, creative crafts, coding, book clubs, and more.

We’ve created a welcoming and inclusive space where young people can share their ideas, create, learn, and grow.

Children's Services

The Children’s Department of Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library is pleased to be able to provide a large collection of materials for you and your child to check out. Please be aware that children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Due to crowd sizes and limited supplies, we may not be able to accommodate groups of 5 or more at our public programs. We are happy to set up private classes or workshops for large groups to ensure adequate supplies. Please call before bringing a group to a program at the library or your group may be turned away.

Children’s Department Computers

Children can log into their computers with their library card or student ID. They will have access to reading, reference, age-appropriate games and more!

Reference Services

The Children’s Department Staff provides support for children’s information needs. We help children find resources for homework, recreational reading, and science fair projects. Resources are also available for parents and teachers on topics relating to children’s development.

Teacher’s Specials

Teachers may borrow up to 30 items for six weeks. Please ask for this service when you visit the Children’s Department.

Library Tours

We will be happy to provide daycares, preschools and scout groups with a tour of the Children’s Department. Please contact the department at 610-278-5100 x205 to schedule an appointment.
